Shadow Sounds: KMFA’s Draylen Mason Studio
Less Than 10 Music welcomes new members for our live performance at KMFA's Draylen Mason Studio! We are thrilled to announce that composer/cellist Sophie Mathieu and harpist/composer Vincent Pierce will be joining us for this concert and many more to come.
Experience an evening of pensive acoustic and electronic chamber music by composers Angélica Negrón, John Luther Adams, Hildegard of Bingen, Missy Mazzoli, Sophie Mathieu, Yu Peng Chen from Genshin Impact, James Tabata, Eugène Ysaÿe, Remy Van Kesteren, and Paola Prestini. These intimate, alluring, and thought provoking pieces are complimented by the Draylen Mason Studio space, putting the audience close to the performers with colorful lighting and balanced sound.
Since this is an indoor venue, we ask that audience members come masked and with proof of vaccination.
Treehouse Concert
Less Than 10’s live debut at Pease Park’s Treehouse. Join us for a unique outdoor concert experience in this open dome with a hammock, firefly lights, and reverberant sound throughout and around the dome. Music by Angelica Negron, Andy Akiho, Guillaume de Machaut, and collective members James Tabata and Nathan Nokes.

Fast Forward Austin x Less Than 10 at 4th Tap Brewery
Join Less Than 10 at Fast Forward Austin’s show at 4th Tap Brewery. Grab a drink from the taproom, dinner from a food truck, and sit down in the open venue for live music. Less Than 10 will play works by Negron, Akiho, Tabata, Machaut, and Nokes. Followed by Less Than 10 are Austin-based sound artist Sonya M. Gonzales and Adelante Winds.
Electronic Assembly: Music of George Lewis and Jason Thorpe Buchanan
Join us for an enthralling experience of electronic music. Alongside prominent performing artists Chelsea De Souza and Shanon Vandurza, Less Than <10 will be performing “Anthem” by award winner composer George Lewis. Core percussionist Jordan Walsh will be performing “El Trompo” by Gabriella Ortiz, a Grammy-nominated composer and leading educator. The Less Than <10 ensemble will also be joined by prolific performers Celeste Markey, Eden Garza, and Titilayo Ayangade for “all-forgetting-is-retrieval” by Jason Thorpe Buchanan, leading composer and artistic director of Switch~ Ensemble.
Arcade: Music from Video Games
Colorful, contemporary arrangements of popular video game music from Hollow Knight will be performed by the Less Than <10 team, as well as the premiere of a new work by composer Phong Tran. Invoke String Quartet will also make an appearence.
Greater Than >10 Highlights: “Sillage”
Highlighting Less Than <10’s collaborators and friends in the Austin music community. Join us for the premiere of movements I and IV of central-Texas renowned harpist and composer Vincent Pierce’s “Sillage” for wind octet, harp, and marimba.
Time Capsule: Machaut, Michelle Schumann, and Akshaya Tucker
A night of powerfully spiritual music, featuring Machaut’s “Messe de Nostre Dame” arranged by Less Than <10 technologist and composer Nathan Nokes, as well as the Chaconne from Bach’s D Minor Partita performed by the Austin Chamber Music Center’s artistic director Michelle Schumann. Los Angeles-based composer Akshaya Tucker also joins us in conversation before a performance of her original music.
Ages of Jazz: Ocelet and Music of Terrance Blanchard
A celebration of contemporary jazz, featuring a premiere performance by New York-based jazz trio Ocelot, a collaboration between Austin-based musicians Camille Schiess and Tony Mariano, and Alan Retamozo’s rendition of Terrance Blanchard’s “Breathless” performed by Less Than <10. Join us for a live conversation with Ocelet, Camille Schiess, and Tony Mariano throughout the show.
Season Preview: Nina Shekhar and Austin Ali
Join us for our first concert of the 2020-2021 season, featuring a colorfully percussive performance of Nina Shekhar’s “Cajón,” performed by cellist Titilayo Ayangade of Thalea String Quartet. The Less Than <10 ensemble will also be premiering Austin Ali’s new work entitled “Homesong.”
